Six NBA teams hire new head coaches for 2026-27 season
Milwaukee, Portland, Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans and Orlando have filled coaching vacancies. Portland's search concluded June 23 while the other five teams completed hires earlier in the month.

Six NBA teams will enter the 2026-27 season with new head coaches after completing offseason searches. Milwaukee hired Taylor Jenkins to replace Doc Rivers, who left the position after the regular season. The remaining five teams filled their openings in the following weeks.
Portland hired Micah Nori on June 23.
The team had operated under interim coach Tiago Splitter after Chauncey Billups was placed on leave following his October arrest in an FBI investigation into an illegal betting scheme. Nori previously served as lead assistant with another franchise for five seasons that included five playoff appearances. Portland finished the 2025-26 season at 42-40 before losing in the first round.
Dallas is finalizing a deal with Dusty May.
The team and previous coach Jason Kidd mutually parted ways on May 19. The franchise holds the ninth pick in the 2026 draft and features a recent Rookie of the Year on its roster. May coached a college program to an NCAA championship before entering NBA coaching.
Chicago hired Tiago Splitter on June 15.
Billy Donovan stepped down from the position on April 21. The team plays in a large market with an established fan base. Splitter had served as Portland's interim coach earlier in the offseason before accepting the Chicago role.
