The film will be produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. It is set to be rated R, with plot details currently under wraps.
The announcement came at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, an annual event for studios and cinema executives. YouTuber Seán "Jacksepticeye" McLoughlin, whose real name is Seán McLoughlin, will co-produce the film. McLoughlin is known as a fan of the game.
Bloodborne was released exclusively for PlayStation 4. The game features punishing combat and a gothic Victorian setting in the city of Yharnam, where a virus turns residents into violent creatures. It builds on FromSoftware's Dark Souls series.
Game Background and Reception Bloodborne received widespread critical acclaim upon release.
It is regarded as one of the best video games of all time for its strategic gameplay and atmospheric world-building. The game has achieved a mythical status among players. Despite fan demand, Bloodborne has not received a sequel.
FromSoftware has focused on other projects, including Elden Ring, which is also being adapted into a film by A24 and directed by Alex Garland. Sony's adaptations of PlayStation properties have varied in success. HBO's The Last of Us series has been well-received, while films like Uncharted and the Twisted Metal series have not performed as strongly.
An upcoming live-action God of War series is in development for Prime Video.
Producer's Involvement Seán McLoughlin, known online as Jacksepticeye, has transitioned from YouTube content creation to production and acting roles.
He appeared in a cameo in the horror film Iron Lung, which was self-financed and directed by fellow creator Markiplier. McLoughlin also voiced a character in the 2025 video game Dispatch.
