South African Police Arrest British Man Wanted in Killings of Wife and Two Daughters

South African police arrested Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, a British citizen of Zimbabwean origin, on Friday in the Johannesburg suburb of Kensington. The arrest took place during an intelligence-led operation that involved Interpol and South African police agencies, @Independent reported.

British authorities want Tshuma on suspicion of killing his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and their daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5.

The bodies were found at the family home near Bedford, north of London. Acting National Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Puleng Dimpane said the arrest showed South Africa would not serve as a safe haven for fugitives.

"Anyone who believes they can evade justice by fleeing to our country should know that the South African Police Service will work tirelessly with international law enforcement partners to trace, locate and arrest them," Dimpane said. Police spokesperson Brig. Athlenda Mathe said legal and extradition processes with U.K.

Authorities would now begin. Britain and South Africa maintain an extradition treaty, though any suspect must first appear before a South African court. Tshuma is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

His lawyer's identity is expected to be confirmed at that hearing, sources familiar with the matter told @Independent.
