South Korean Official Meets Gates Foundation Representative on AI-Driven Health Cooperation
A senior South Korean government official met with a Gates Foundation representative in Seoul on May 6, 2026, to discuss expanding cooperation in health care and bio sectors using artificial intelligence. During the meeting, Kim stated that South Korea hopes to expand cooperation with the Gates Foundation based on the country's advanced AI and biotechnologies.
Cerrell expressed gratitude for South Korea's cooperation with international health care organizations, including its financial contribution to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. He added that he looks forward to South Korea taking advantage of its AI technology to play further active roles in these areas, according to the Prime Minister's Office as reported by Yonhap.
The Gates Foundation plans to open an office in South Korea in the second half of 2026, Cerrell said.
The meeting, which took place on a Wednesday, included Kim and Cerrell posing for a photo, as provided by the Prime Minister's Office. The discussions built on South Korea's existing engagements in global health, with Cerrell noting the country's role in epidemic preparedness efforts.
Kim emphasized leveraging South Korea's technological strengths to deepen ties with the foundation, Yonhap reported.
