South Korean Pitcher Allows Home Run in MLB Debut for Minnesota
Go Woo-suk pitched the ninth inning for the Minnesota Twins on July 9 and surrendered a solo home run in a 5-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander became the 30th South Korean to appear in an MLB game.

Go Woo-suk made his Major League Baseball debut for the Minnesota Twins on July 9, entering in the ninth inning of a 5-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field in Minneapolis. The South Korean right-hander retired the first batter on a groundout before allowing a 384-foot solo home run on a slider.
He then struck out the next batter on a splitter and induced a groundout to end the inning. Go joined the Twins via a trade from the Detroit Tigers earlier in the week. He signed his first U.S. contract with the San Diego Padres in January 2024 after recording 139 saves in the Korea Baseball Organization from 2019 to 2023.
Go was traded to the Miami Marlins in May 2024 without reaching the majors and reached Triple-A in that organization. The Marlins released him in June 2025, after which the Tigers signed him to a minor-league deal. He posted a 4.29 ERA in 14 Triple-A games for the Tigers in 2025 and re-signed with them on another minor-league contract in December.
Go had a 2.60 ERA in 27 2/3 innings over 19 Triple-A outings this season before the trade.
The Twins rank last among 30 MLB teams in bullpen ERA at 5.28.
Go and his brother-in-law, San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo, are the only two active South Korean players in MLB.
