President Lee Jae Myung will travel to Europe from Tuesday to June 18 to attend the Group of Seven summit in France and conduct bilateral meetings in Belgium, Italy, and the Vatican, National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said Friday. Lee will visit Brussels from Tuesday to Wednesday and hold separate summit talks with the leaders of Belgium and the European Union, Wi told reporters at a press briefing.
From Thursday to Saturday, Lee will make a state visit to Italy at the invitation of President Sergio Mattarella.
During the visit he will hold a summit with Mattarella and separate talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Lee will then visit the Vatican from June 14-15 and meet with Pope Leo XIV before attending the G7 summit from June 16-17, Wi said.
Lee's attendance comes at the invitation of the grouping, the national security adviser stated. An image released with the announcement shows Lee and first lady Kim Hea Kyung departing for an earlier trip to India and Vietnam on April 19, 2026.
