The feature lets subscribers converse with an AI to play and explore music, podcasts, and audiobooks. It draws on personal listening data and is rolling out in beta on mobile apps.
The VergeSpotify is testing a new AI feature called Talk to Spotify that lets Premium subscribers play and explore music, audiobooks, and podcasts through chatbot conversations. The Verge reported that the chatbox appears on the Home and Now Playing views in the company's mobile app. Users can type requests or tap a mic symbol to speak.
The chatbot references playlists, favorite artists, repeat listens, and other listening data when responding. Subscribers can ask when they first heard a specific song, what genres they have listened to recently, or request songs they have not heard before and then refine the selection by artist or mood.
The same system answers general questions about the current track, such as its release date or other works by the same author or podcast guest.
The Verge noted that the feature goes beyond earlier recommendation tools by maintaining a conversational exchange. The beta is available to Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden. It runs on both iOS and Android devices in English.
Spotify stated that responses from the chatbot will not always be perfect.
