The team defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 on Saturday and returned to San Antonio the same day. Victor Wembanyama said he spoke with Popovich immediately after landing.

Famers remain involved Popovich, 77, suffered a stroke in November 2024 that ended his coaching tenure. He continues to attend practices at the team's training facility after completing daily rehabilitation sessions. Keldon Johnson said players stop talking when Popovich enters the room. De'Aaron Fox noted that other Hall of Famers also provide guidance during the playoff run.

Coaching transition Mitch Johnson took over as interim head coach after Popovich's stroke and guided the team to a 32-45 record last season. He now serves as head coach while Popovich holds the title of director of basketball operations. Johnson said the two continue to discuss strategy and exchange feedback despite the change in roles.

Popovich finished his coaching career with 1,422 regular-season victories and five NBA championships.
