The Pittsburgh Steelers reached an agreement with tight end Darnell Washington on a four-year, $42 million contract extension that includes $21 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The sides finalized the extension on Wednesday. It is the second contract extension the Steelers have awarded to a member of their 2023 draft class in as many days.

Washington recorded a career-high 364 receiving yards on 31 catches from 43 targets while playing with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2025. He has caught a touchdown pass in each of the past two seasons. At 6-foot-7 and near 300 pounds, Washington has served as a red-zone target for Pittsburgh.

He has also shown the ability to overpower defenders in space after playing college football at Georgia. Washington was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. " Outside linebacker Nick Herbig, another member of the 2023 draft class under general manager Omar Khan, signed a four-year, $100 million extension on Wednesday.

Herbig said after signing, "I'd love to keep that whole class here. " Herbig added that he wants to play his whole career with Washington and noted the bond he has developed with cornerback Joey Porter Jr.
