forbes.comStellar Blade: Blood Rain was announced at Summer Games Fest 2026 as the sequel to the 2024 game Stellar Blade. The original title, developed by South Korean studio Shift Up, sold well and received critical and audience acclaim. Shift Up is self-publishing the sequel.
The studio said the project has been in development for one year as of June 2026 and will not release for at least one year from that date. The new protagonist is named Evie. Shift Up stated that Evie was intentionally designed to be shorter and look a bit younger than the original protagonist Eve in order to help make the close-quarters melee-based combat pop.
Evie is an expert at tech-enhanced hand-to-hand combat and does not wield a traditional sword. The initial trailer showed her with a deep voice. The original Stellar Blade launched as a PS5 exclusive and later became an especially big success on PC, dwarfing all other PS5 ports on Steam.
Com reported that generative AI was used in the background of the Stellar Blade: Blood Rain trailer and in the official promotional art. Shift Up has been positive and forthcoming about its use of GenAI in the game.
