Stephen Curry Signs 10-Year Endorsement Deal With Chinese Sportswear Company Li-Ning
The Golden State Warriors star ends a recruitment process that began after his November split from Under Armour. The deal covers basketball products, lifestyle wear, athlete signings, and a golf line.
ESPNStephen Curry has signed a 10-year endorsement contract with Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning. The agreement ends a recruitment process that began after Curry split from Under Armour in November. Curry announced the end of his sneaker free agency on Monday.
The partnership was announced on social media the same day. The agreement covers basketball products, athleisure lifestyle wear, the ability for Curry to sign male and female athletes under his brand, and a full golf line. Curry chose Li-Ning over pitches from other American and foreign companies.
One factor in his decision was comfort while testing the shoes of Li-Ning signature athletes Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade. Li-Ning plans to build Curry Brand stores in the United States and in China. Curry's agent Jeff Austin finalized negotiations in recent days.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Curry and Under Armour announced a mutual divorce in November after a 13-year partnership. Curry expressed gratitude in the announcement. Industry sources said there was growing frustration about underinvestment from a brand decreasing in valuation.
Curry immediately sparked a high-profile recruitment during a Warriors road trip in San Antonio. Curry wore Nike Kobe 6 "Mambacita" sneakers to warm up pregame in San Antonio. He then shuffled through a number of various brands over the following months.
