Chain president Roger Wheeler described the move as a permanent pricing reset intended to provide relief to customers. Wheeler said customer comments about higher prices began increasing around the time of the COVID pandemic in 2020.
He noted that recent rises in energy and grocery costs have added to budget pressures for many households.
