Super Typhoon Bavi expected to enter Philippine area July 8; agencies preposition supplies

Super Typhoon Bavi is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on the morning of July 8, 2026, prompting government agencies to implement preemptive measures. OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo stated that agencies have implemented preemptive measures and prepositioned resources and manpower.

High-risk areas include extreme Northern Luzon and Eastern Luzon, specifically Cagayan Valley, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern Cagayan, and Isabela. The southwest monsoon will be strengthened by the typhoon and may bring rains and winds over western sections of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Visayas.

Local government units are monitoring high tide times and heavy rainfall outlooks due to the monsoon, tropical cyclone, and localized thunderstorms.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government is coordinating with LGUs for preemptive evacuations using information from science-based agencies. Marcos directed agencies to issue sea travel advisories on possible rough waters. Food and non-food items have been prepositioned.

Emergency telecommunications teams, logistics, power and energy groups, search and rescue teams, and debris cleaning and civil works clusters are on standby. The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepositioned more than 4.7 million family food packs as of July 7.

Over 360,000 ready-to-eat food packs have also been prepositioned. Marcos directed agencies to protect the livelihood of affected residents and set up mechanisms to evacuate livestock. The Department of the Interior and Local Government placed LGUs in Northern Luzon and other hazard-prone areas on heightened alert and instructed them to identify flood- and landslide-prone areas, clear drainage systems, inspect critical infrastructure, and intensify public information campaigns.
