The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld state laws that prohibit biological males from competing in women's sports categories. A Republican candidate for governor said the decision affirmed constitutional protections for female athletes and pointed to an earlier county order he signed.
Ongoing county litigation A state court last fall upheld the county measure, which remains in effect while opponents pursue an appeal. A women's recreational roller derby league filed suit against the county rule and is represented by the New York Civil Liberties Union.
The attorney general's office stated that the Supreme Court ruling leaves the county case unaffected and that the appeal will continue.
