Taulupe Faletau Signs One-Year Contract Extension with Cardiff Rugby

Taulupe Faletau has signed a new one-year contract with Cardiff Rugby; the club will manage his training and match minutes as he enters his 17th professional season. The 35-year-old back row forward agreed to the extension after his previous deal expired at the end of June. Faletau has won 109 caps for Wales and made six Test appearances for the British and Irish Lions.
He has made 30 appearances for Cardiff since signing in 2022, a total reduced by injuries that include a season-ending shoulder problem in April 2026 along with earlier knee and calf issues. "I'm thrilled to sign another contract at Cardiff. The club feels like home and we made some great progress last season," Faletau said.
He noted that Cardiff qualified for next season's Champions Cup and added that he wants to give more to the club and its players despite recent injuries. "Playing at the Arms Park is always really special and I am looking forward to getting back out there with the boys and giving everything I can to the club in its 150th season," he said.
Cardiff head coach Corniel van Zyl said he was pleased to retain Faletau and that the club is assembling a competitive squad.
Van Zyl stated there is a plan to manage the player's training and match minutes as he enters his 17th professional season after earlier stints with Dragons and Bath.
