Taylor Swift has reimbursed New York City more than $160,000 for police costs tied to her wedding. Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated on Friday that the singer paid the full permit amount for the event and its security response. The wedding took place on July 4 at Madison Square Garden.
Multiple streets around the arena were closed to traffic on July 3 and 4, with partial pedestrian access restricted. The event drew roughly 1,000 guests, including musicians, athletes, and celebrities. About 150 to 200 NYPD officers worked the event in 100-degree heat.
Some officers completed 30-hour shifts without breaks. The city permit was finalized days before the wedding. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis posted on X the day before the ceremony that Swift and Kelce should cover the cost of 130 officers per day.
She noted that officers were already assigned to Fourth of July duties and that taxpayers should not bear the expense. Mamdani had previously warned that the city would limit large-scale events this summer because of the New York Knicks championship series, the World Cup, and America 250 celebrations.
He added that the restrictions would not prevent New Yorkers from using parks or holding barbecues.
