New York PostA visiting baseball team defeated its opponent 18-3 on Friday behind multiple home runs and 18 total runs scored. The team loaded the bases twice in consecutive games and cleared them with grand slams. One player hit a grand slam while another added a three-run homer and finished with eight runs batted in. Two additional home runs came against a position player in the ninth inning.
Offensive output The team has now scored 30 runs and recorded 39 hits over its past two games. Entering the current road trip the club ranked near the top of the league in batting average but near the bottom in runs scored. Three double-digit scoring outputs have occurred in the eight games of the trip.
The 30 runs over two games represent the most in any two-game span since 1944. The team has hit six grand slams this season, tied for the major-league lead, with all occurring after May 17.
Pitching and upcoming schedule The starting pitcher reached the 90-pitch mark in the fifth inning for the fifth consecutive start but earned the win. The opponent issued five walks but did not score on any of them. The team next faces a scheduled starter who holds a 1.92 earned-run average in 17 appearances this season.
The opposing pitcher will be a right-hander coming off a start limited by lower-back tightness.
