Telstra mobile network outage disrupts calls and data across Australia

A major outage struck Telstra's mobile network early Wednesday, leaving thousands of customers unable to make calls or access data on Australia's largest carrier. The telecommunications provider, which operates about 25 million mobile services, posted on social media that it was examining the problem.

It told users to restart their devices as a temporary step and said it would provide updates once service was restored.

Recent similar incidents at other carriers The Telstra outage follows earlier problems at Vodafone and Optus. In June, Vodafone customers experienced intermittent reception and data issues across Australia. Vodafone said customers unable to reach its network could still connect to emergency triple zero calls by using other available mobile networks.

Two deaths were linked to an Optus outage in September 2025 that lasted nearly 14 hours and affected hundreds of calls in four states and territories. New rules issued by the Australian Communications and Media Authority in March require telcos to publish detailed outage start and restoration times along with the cause.
