teslarati.comTesla has expanded its driverless Robotaxi geofence to cover the entire Austin metro area. The territory spans 245 square miles. Texas DMV filings show the company has deployed 59 active unsupervised vehicles inside that zone.
Bloomberg conducted field tests of the service and recorded prolonged software glitches, pick-up inaccuracies, and wait times stretching past 30 minutes due to fleet capacity constraints. CFRA Research analyst Garrett Nelson stated that Tesla’s active vehicle count lands well short of even bearish baseline models.
He noted the operational gap between Tesla and Alphabet’s Waymo network, which operates a multi-thousand vehicle fleet.
Seeking Alpha reported that Tesla is treating its current Texas footprint as an engineering lab before unlocking larger localized scale. The firm’s automated systems currently flag the equity as a steady HOLD.
