Tesla Unveils Two-Seater Robotaxi Without Steering Wheel or Pedals for Planned Fleet Use

Tesla plans to deploy Cybercab as the primary vehicle in its Robotaxi fleet. The vehicle eliminates the need for a steering wheel, pedals and traditional controls, freeing cabin space and reducing weight and operational costs. Cybercab is designed as a compact two-seater.

More than 85 percent of ride-hailing trips carry one to two passengers, with other autonomous Tesla vehicles available for larger groups. The vehicle incorporates 4680 battery cells, steer-by-wire technology and a 48-volt architecture that delivers power to different parts of the vehicle more efficiently.

It also uses an unboxed manufacturing process that builds the vehicle in parallel rather than on sequential lines, improving factory space use.

Cybercab is manufactured from lightweight reactive injection molded panels that remove the need for a traditional paint shop. A new drive unit eliminates reliance on certain critical minerals that can be costly and difficult to procure. These changes produce a step-change reduction in vehicle bill of material and manufacturing costs while aiming to meet or exceed global safety standards, Tesla stated.
