Texas Defeats Nebraska 3-1 on Stewart's Sixth-Inning Three-Run Homer

Katie Stewart hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning that lifted Texas to a 3-1 victory over Nebraska on June 1, 2026. The game took place in Oklahoma City. Stewart's homer came off national player of the year Jordy Frahm.

Stewart's 28 home runs this season set a Texas record. The victory moved the defending national champion Longhorns closer to a return to the Women's College World Series championship series. Texas must beat Tennessee twice on Monday to advance to that series.

"She's strong as an ox," Texas coach Mike White said. White added that Stewart hit the game-clinching blast off the handle. "Her home runs can be prodigious," he said. Stewart played a lot of whiffle ball growing up in a Chicago suburb.

Her sister Danielle said Stewart would hit moon shots compared to the neighborhood kids, including boys. Her father Lance Stewart said his daughter has always been strong.

"She doesn't need to hit all of it. She just needs to get enough of it -- and it's going to go," he said. Lance Stewart recalled that when Katie was 13, he lay on top of her after a workout and dared her to do a push-up with no knees.

Lance Stewart weighed about 260 pounds at the time.
