Thunderstorms last week produced record flooding across the Texas Hill Country, killing two people and damaging hundreds of homes. Officials said almost all rivers in the region reached new highs. Kerr, Kendall, and Comal counties recorded the heaviest damage.
Kerr County reported 490 damaged homes, including 135 heavily damaged or destroyed, plus roughly 100 affected businesses. Kendall County counted about 100 damaged homes, with assessments still underway in Boerne. Comal County listed three damaged homes.
A county judge described the July event as "déjà vu all over again" at a July 20 news conference. The judge noted that circumstances differed from last year's floods but that devastation remained. State officials said flood-warning systems installed after the 2025 disaster helped limit casualties this time.
More than 530 people were rescued during the current event. Officials reported that the Nueces River and downstream waters continue to rise, prompting ongoing evacuations in Uvalde County. A major disaster declaration covering 28 counties was issued on July 17.
The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill
Country established a flood-relief fund separate from the earlier Kerr County fund. The OneStar Foundation created the Rebuild Texas Fund to direct donations to local recovery organizations.
