Threads reaches 500 million monthly users and adds personalization tools
The Meta-owned platform announced Tuesday that it has reached 500 million monthly active users. It also introduced new features that let users privately adjust their feeds and expanded community tools.
theverge.comThreads reached 500 million monthly active users nearly three years after its launch, the company announced Tuesday. The platform also introduced a feature called Your Algo that lets users privately control what appears in their feed. Users can specify topics they want to see more or less of and set the duration of each request for one, three, or seven days.
The requests remain visible only to the individual user.
New community features Threads is also moving its Communities feature out of beta. A new Communities Hub will help users locate topic-based groups, and each community will now display its own icon. Live Chats are expanding to additional communities, with options for co-hosting and quoting moments to a user's feed. By July, every community will be able to start Live Chats.
Growth and competition The company reported 400 million monthly active users in August 2025. Threads added 100 million users in the ten months since that figure. The platform has introduced direct messaging, ghost posts, and desktop messaging over the past year as it continues to add tools that were not present at launch.
