Woods opened with rounds of 69, 67 and 69 to build a nine-shot lead over Arizona’s Rory Sabbatini after 54 holes. The final round proved difficult. Woods made a triple bogey on the ninth hole after hitting into the water, then recorded four consecutive bogeys on holes 10 through 13.
He closed with an 80 yet finished at 285, four shots ahead of the field and the only player under par. The victory gave Stanford its first individual NCAA title since 1942. “I’m exhausted right now,” Woods told reporters after the win, per NBC.
