Tony Dungy Endorses Michele Tafoya in Minnesota Republican Senate Primary
Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy endorsed former NBC sideline reporter Michele Tafoya in Minnesota's Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Tafoya faces four other candidates in the August 11 primary.
Fox NewsU.S. Senate. Dungy and Tafoya worked together for more than a decade on NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast, where Dungy served as an analyst and Tafoya as the sideline reporter. Dungy lives in Florida but played quarterback at the University of Minnesota and later served as defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings from 1992 to 1995.
"I've known Michele Tafoya for over 30 years, and I can tell you this: Michele is the real deal," Dungy said in a video shared by Tafoya. " Dungy added that Tafoya loves the country, cares about families and children, and is an independent thinker who is not a career politician. He said she would represent Minnesota well in the Senate.
Tafoya is one of five candidates in the August 11 Republican primary. The others are former NBA player Royce White, former Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze, retired Navy officer Tom Weiler, and farmer and computer scientist Mark York. The winner will face either Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan or Rep. Angie Craig in the November 3 general election.
