Trooping the Colour Held for King Charles's Official Birthday Amid Protests

More than 1,400 members of the armed forces, 200 horses and 400 musicians took part in the Trooping the Colour ceremony on 13 June 2026 to mark King Charles's official birthday. The regiment whose colours were trooped was the Grenadier Guards. King Charles wore the uniform of the Grenadier Guards bearing Queen Elizabeth II's cypher and medals including the 1953 Coronation Medal and the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Medal.

Queen Camilla, Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, wore a red Grenadier Guards uniform dress designed by Fiona Clarke and a black beret with white plume designed by Phillip Treacy. Second Lt Alec Goschen, 6 ft 7 in tall, carried the Grenadier Guards colour and reached 8 ft 6 in in his bearskin.

King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade in an open-top Ascot Landau carriage purchased during Queen Victoria's reign.

The Duchess of Edinburgh and Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence travelled together in the first carriage. The Duke of Gloucester and the Duchess of Gloucester travelled in the second carriage. The Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh rode on horseback during the parade.

The Princess of Wales travelled in a carriage with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. King Charles conducted an inspection of the troops and the colour was trooped through the ranks of foot guards. After the parade, a 41-gun salute was fired by The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

King Charles led the guards back to Buckingham Palace where a further salute took place. The parade route ran from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade. Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan died after falling from her horse at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May 2026.
