Jabe Boroff hit the tiebreaking double in the seventh inning as Troy scored four runs in that frame to overcome a 6-2 deficit. The Trojans posted their 18th come-from-behind win of the season and improved to a 39-31 record.
Mississippi finished at 41-23 and was eliminated in its first appearance at Charles Schwab Field since winning the national championship in 2022. Southeastern Conference teams had won 13 straight games against non-SEC opponents in the College World Series before the Rebels lost to North Carolina and Troy.
The teams combined for 26 hits and six home runs in a game that lasted 3 hours and 54 minutes under sunny skies with a temperature of 70 degrees and 15 mph wind blowing out at first pitch.
It was the first time since 2001 at Rosenblatt Stadium that each team hit three home runs in a game. Mississippi scored two runs in the first inning and led 6-2 after the fourth after Brayden Randle and Collin Reuters each hit two-run home runs. Sean Darnell homered for Troy in the second inning.
In the fifth, a balk by Hunter Elliott scored one run and Darnell singled in two more to cut the deficit to 6-5. Jimmy Janicki hit his team-leading 21st home run of the season to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh. Boroff's two-run double gave Troy a 9-6 lead after Houston Markham scored on a base hit.
Noah Thigpen pitched five innings of relief to earn the win and improve to 1-5. JP Robertson took the loss and fell to 5-2. "I know the city of Troy is absolutely loving this," Boroff said. Seven players on Troy's roster are Alabama natives.
