Fox NewsTroy Jackson filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to potentially replace Graham Platner as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate from Maine, Fox News reported. Platner dropped out of the race on Wednesday.
Jackson appeared Thursday on MS NOW with host Katy Tur. Tur played video of independent Maine voter Brent Hawkes saying he would vote for Republican Sen. Susan Collins over Jackson or Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.
Hawkes said Jackson voted against gay marriage and abortion and was not progressive. Jackson said the voter was accurate about the past votes. He stated he voted against those measures over 15 years ago but now believes healthcare and abortion access are human rights.
Jackson said he holds a 100% voting record with Planned Parenthood and has co-sponsored some of the most progressive abortion access legislation in the country. Jackson also addressed his early support for Platner. He said he did not know about certain past controversies at the time and understood that people can change.
Bellows has also been floated as a possible replacement for Platner.
