Trump Administration Allocates $68 Million for 250th Anniversary Events; Democrats Allege Donor Redirection

President Trump marked the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence through events supported by federal funds. The Trump administration directed at least $68.3 million in taxpayer funds through the Department of the Interior to the National Park Foundation. The funds supported Freedom 250, a public-private partnership the White House established in December 2025.
Freedom 250 operates as an LLC inside the National Park Foundation. Freedom 250 has sought corporate donations in tiers from $500,000 to more than $10 million. Listed sponsors include Palantir, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and United Health Group.
Top donors receive VIP access, speaking roles at the July Fourth event in Washington and invitations to a private reception with President Trump. America250 was created by Congress in 2016 as a bipartisan commission to plan the semiquincentennial. Fourteen companies have contributed to both America250 and Freedom 250.
The structure of Freedom 250 allows donor names and amounts to remain private. Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources issued a report this week alleging that donors intending to give to America250 were redirected to Freedom 250. The report stated that such redirection could violate federal wire-fraud and charitable-solicitation laws.
Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said the report's claims are categorically false and called the document a partisan smear.
