The Trump administration has directed taxpayer funds and corporate donations toward Freedom 250 events for the nation's 250th anniversary while setting aside the bipartisan America250 commission established by Congress. @ABC reported that the Department of the Interior provided at least $68.3 million to the National Park Foundation over the last year for semiquincentennial events.
Freedom 250 operates as a subsidiary of the foundation and as a public-private partnership launched by the White House in December 2025.
Corporate sponsors of Freedom 250 include Palantir, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and United Health Group. , and invitations to a private reception hosted by President Donald Trump. Democrats on the House Committee on Natural Resources issued a report this week alleging that Freedom 250 has become a hotbed of corruption and self-enrichment.
The report stated that the administration pressured donors to give to Freedom 250, steered donors away from America250, and provided some donors with bank information for Freedom 250 instead. Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez stated that the House report claims are categorically false.
A memo issued this year by Skadden advised corporate clients to distinguish between the two entities and to ensure no quid pro quo when donating.
Congress created America250 in 2016 as a bipartisan commission signed into law by then-President Barack Obama. Days after President Donald Trump began his second term, he signed an executive order establishing the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday and creating Freedom 250 under the Department of Defense.
