Trump Border Czar Tom Homan Announces Plans for Increased Interior Enforcement and More Deportations
Tom Homan told Fox News that deportation numbers will rise while border crossings fall, with resources focused on sanctuary cities. The administration is hiring 10,000 more immigration enforcement agents. Homan recently warned New York Gov. Kathy Hochul that federal operations will proceed regardless of state resistance.
Fox NewsTom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, said millions more deportations are needed as the administration surges resources to sanctuary cities while border crossings continue to decrease. Homan spoke with Fox News’ Will Cain on Thursday. He said he expects deportation numbers to increase while border crossings continue to decrease.
"We’re going to continue to surge resources, especially to sanctuary cities, because we know we have a problem there," he said. " He said there are 12 million illegal aliens in the country according to a figure used 25 years ago. Homan said he thinks the number of illegal aliens in the country is well over 20 million.
"So, we’re going to do everything we can to arrest as many people as we can," he said. " He said the administration is not going to give up on President Trump’s promise to the American people on mass deportations. The administration is hiring 10,000 more immigration enforcement agents.
There are about 7,000 immigration enforcement agents on board. Another 3,000 more immigration enforcement agents are going through training. Homan expressed his opinion to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin that the vast majority of these agents need to go to sanctuary cities.
He said that in Florida every sheriff and every police chief is working with federal authorities, they honor detainers, and there is less of a problem in states like Florida and Texas. Homan recently issued a warning to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul vowing to flood the zone with ICE officers.
He responded to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul by saying he is not asking for permission and that federal authorities are going to do it anyway. "Well, Governor Hochul, I’m not asking either. I said it.
And Tijuana, Mexico, on Dec. 13, 2025, to announce increased security on the southwest border. Fox News reported the details of his Thursday interview. The border czar’s comments underscore the administration’s focus on interior enforcement in jurisdictions that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
In states that work with federal agents, Homan said problems are smaller because detainers are honored and public safety threats are not released.
