Trump to Decide on Iran Deal in Situation Room Meeting
President Trump said Friday he is heading into the Situation Room to make a final determination on a potential agreement with Iran. The proposed deal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz without tolls and require destruction of Iran's highly-enriched uranium.
President Trump said Friday he is heading into the Situation Room to make a final determination on a potential agreement with Iran. "Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions," Trump said on Truth Social.
The president added that mines in the waterway must be removed and that enriched uranium buried underground must be unearthed and destroyed. He stated no money will be exchanged until further notice.
Trump also said the U.S.
Naval blockade of Iranian ports will now be lifted. Iran had criticized the blockade as a violation of the ceasefire imposed on April 13. Ships caught in the Strait due to the blockade may start heading home, Trump wrote.
Iranian state media reported that no agreement had been finalized. Fars news agency said the draft includes release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, contradicting Trump's statement that no money will be exchanged. An Iranian official said Trump is the only person not accepting Iranian management of the Strait of Hormuz.
"Iranian management of the vital waterway has been established globally," Ebrahim Rezaei posted on X.
Israeli ground forces crossed Lebanon's Litani River on Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. An average of 11 children have been killed or wounded every day in Lebanon over the past week, according to UNICEF. Iranian state TV reported 24 additional ships transited the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours under coordination with Iran's military.
