President Donald Trump launched the Trump Accounts initiative Monday during an event in the Oval Office, the Washington Examiner reported. The program creates tax-advantaged, IRA-style savings and investment accounts for U.S. citizens under age 18.
The federal government will provide a $1,000 seed deposit for children born between 2025 and 2028. Family and employer contributions are capped at $5,000 annually and must be directed to low-cost U.S. equity index funds.
The initiative was established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The announcement event lasted nearly 90 minutes. During the remarks, a child was seen falling asleep against the Resolute Desk.
