Trump-Nominated Judge Rejects Administration Challenge to Minnesota Sanctuary Laws
U.S. District Judge Eric C. Tostrud rejected the administration's request to declare Minnesota sanctuary laws unconstitutional. The Hill reported the Monday filing sought to block the policies under the Supremacy Clause. Earlier enforcement actions in the state included a contempt finding against DHS.

U.S. District Judge Eric C. Tostrud ruled against the Trump administration in a case over Minnesota sanctuary laws, The Hill reported. The administration had filed Monday asserting that the laws violate the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution and asking the court to declare them unconstitutional and block their enforcement.
Tostrud had previously held the Department of Homeland Security in civil contempt in February. He found that DHS violated a court order by transporting a detainee to a Texas facility in January. The judge ordered the federal government to pay for the detainee's return flight to Minnesota.
The detainee, Mexican citizen Fernando, was released from the Texas facility in late January without his belongings. Earlier this year more than 3,000 federal immigration personnel operated in Minnesota at one point. In January federal immigration authorities killed two U.S.
Citizens, Alex Pretti and Renee Good, in Minneapolis. The Hill has reached out to the Justice Department for comment on the latest ruling.
