Tupac Shakur murder suspect says memoir will not affect trial
Duane Davis's lawyer stated that an upcoming memoir by Suge Knight will not impact the upcoming trial. The book is scheduled for release days before jury selection begins.
New York PostDuane “Keefe D” Davis, the suspect in the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, said through his attorney that he is not concerned about statements Suge Knight may make in an upcoming memoir. Knight, who is serving a 28-year sentence for a 2015 fatal hit-and-run, is scheduled to release the book titled “Your Pain is My Joy” on August 4. The memoir is set to describe events surrounding Shakur’s death.
Davis’s trial for the 1996 murder is scheduled to begin August 10 in Las Vegas. The memoir release date falls less than one week before jury selection starts. Davis’s attorney Michael Sanft told The California Post that he and his client do not expect the memoir to influence the jury or the trial outcome.
Sanft said he does not believe Knight will participate in the case. He added that he has faith in the jury system and the oaths taken by jurors. Sanft stated that Knight has made too many conflicting statements over the years to be called as a witness.
He described Davis as a fantasist who made prior statements for fame and fortune. Discovery for the trial includes recorded interviews from the early 2000s in which Davis admitted to being the “shot caller” and providing the gun used in the shooting.
