Turkish Police Ordered to Remove CHP Leadership From Party Headquarters
Authorities in Ankara directed police to enforce a court ruling that reinstated former CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. The order targets current party officials aligned with Ozgur Ozel.
Turkish authorities ordered police to evict the leadership of the main opposition Republican People's Party from its headquarters in Ankara on Sunday. The Ankara governor's office issued the directive after a Turkish appeals court annulled the results of a 2023 party congress that elected Ozgur Ozel as leader. The same ruling reinstated former chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
Riot police and crowds gathered outside the building as the order was carried out. Ozel has described the decision as a judicial coup and stated he will remain in the headquarters while pursuing legal appeals. Ozel called on Saturday for a new party congress to be held as soon as possible.
Kilicdaroglu said a congress would be held at an appropriate time. CHP lawmakers elected Ozel as leader of the party's parliamentary group on Saturday.

Rewrite largely strips loaded language but retains mild lede_misdirection by centering the police eviction order over the substantive court ruling that triggered it.
Lede misdirection: lede foregrounds police action instead of the court annulment that is the actual substantive trigger
The same facts could be read as legitimate judicial correction of an irregular party election, with police simply enforcing a lawful court order to prevent an illegitimate faction from occupying headquarters.
