Twitch Announces Dual-Format Streaming and 2K Support Launching Next Month
Twitch announced Dual Format streaming and several platform updates at TwitchCon Rotterdam 2026. The changes include simultaneous horizontal and vertical streams plus higher-resolution options.
EngadgetTwitch announced the Dual Format feature at TwitchCon Rotterdam 2026. The tool lets creators stream horizontally and vertically at the same time to accommodate viewers on desktop and mobile devices. The feature will roll out next month along with 2K streaming for all partners and affiliates.
Viewers on mobile will see a full screen vertical view optimized for mobile devices, while desktop viewers will see the classic horizontal format. In the vertical layout, users can switch to classic split view. When the phone is turned from either view, the user returns to a full screen horizontal view.
Twitch will add server-side transcoding support for Partners and many Affiliates for Dual Format. 5 Mbps for 1080p. Twitch is adding mid-stream summaries so viewers can quickly catch up when they join late.
The platform is also adding GIFs in chat for Tier 2 and Tier 3 subscribers. For creators, Twitch is introducing Auto Clips which automatically turn key moments from a stream into shareable clips. The company is also introducing the option to auto-caption community clips and a best clips list in the stream summary for easier sharing to Twitch Stories.
