Ty Gibbs takes pole for NASCAR Cup race at Sonoma
Ty Gibbs recorded the fastest qualifying lap at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday. Carson Hocevar will start alongside him on the front row for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350.

Ty Gibbs recorded the fastest lap of NASCAR Cup Series qualifying at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday with a time of 74.829 seconds. The lap secured the pole position for Gibbs for the third time in his Cup career and the first time since 2024. It also marked the first time since he joined the series that Shane van Gisbergen did not win the pole at Sonoma.
Front-row lineup and top qualifiers Carson Hocevar will start second after leading the second group of qualifying before Gibbs's lap. Hocevar said after the session that he did not feel his lap was very good. Defending Cup champion Kyle Larson, Michael McDowell and Ross Chastain completed the top five.
Shane van Gisbergen, Chase Briscoe, AJ Allmendinger, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano rounded out the top 10.
Other notable results Points leader Tyler Reddick qualified 11th, Christopher Bell 14th and Chase Elliott 18th. Logano was the highest-qualifying Ford driver. Bubba Wallace crashed during his qualifying lap. Noah Gragson was unable to complete a lap after brake-fluid issues in practice.
