The U.S. government has restricted direct travel home for Americans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo amid an Ebola outbreak, @ABC reported. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Homeland Security are implementing a "Do Not Board" process, the CDC said in a social media post on Wednesday.
This list prevents individuals from obtaining boarding passes for any flights into, out of, or within the United States. Previously, only non-citizens faced such restrictions from Ebola outbreak regions, while American travelers underwent screening at select airports. Under the new measure, Americans departing the DRC must wait 21 days before returning to the U.S.
The DRC has recorded more than 2,000 cases and 750 deaths from Ebola, marking the third largest outbreak on record. Earlier this week, the CDC announced that a second American infected with the virus, who works for a humanitarian aid organization, had been transferred to Germany for care.
