Companies across several sectors have set layoff dates for June 2026, according to the most recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filings. The notices cover firms including Alliance, Boys & Girls Club of the LA Harbor, Community Healthlink, FM Restaurants, MarketSource, Ryder, Accel, Gilead Sciences, Battelle, Wells Fargo, Five Guys, FreshRealm, City National Bank, Apple, Joe’s Crab Shack, and PNC Bank.

Layoffs announced for June mark a slower month relative to 2025, when 1.2 million job cuts were reported. Government positions accounted for the largest share of those reductions, followed by technology, retail, warehousing, and professional services.

Org show filings have eased since the peak of 2025 but remain above 2024 levels. Officials note that many notices filed in April and May list effective dates in late June, July, or August. Kevin Thompson, CEO of 9i Capital Group, said industries facing tariffs, higher transportation costs, and weaker consumer demand have seen the largest reductions.

He added that technology, manufacturing, transportation, and consumer discretionary sectors continue to cut positions.

Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor at the University of Tennessee at Martin, stated that consumer spending restraint, rather than automation alone, explains cuts in retail and transportation. Healthcare remains the strongest hiring sector, while tech, media, and corporate roles show fewer openings.

com, said the filings reflect smaller, cumulative reductions at many firms. He noted that workers who begin searching before additional cuts take effect have a better chance of securing new positions. Beene said states are expanding short-term training programs aimed at moving displaced workers into high-demand occupations.

He added that employees facing layoffs should apply for unemployment benefits promptly and consider certifications in healthcare or skilled trades.
