U.S. and Iran Closer to Possible Peace Deal
President Trump said the U.S. and Iran are getting closer to a peace deal. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said some progress has been made and that news could come within days.
President Trump said the United States and Iran are getting a lot closer to a peace deal. Trump told CBS News he has read a draft of the agreement and that every day it gets better. He said any final deal must ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon and that Iran's enriched uranium will be satisfactorily handled.
Rubio spoke with reporters after a meeting in India. He said there may be news later today or in the coming days and that some progress has been made. Rubio added that the issue needs to be solved one way or the other. He said work is continuing even as he spoke.
“There may be news later today. I don't have news for you at this very moment, but there might be some news a little later today, there may not be. Trump told Axios he would review Iran's latest offer with his team and decide by Sunday whether to resume military action. He said one of two things will happen: either the U.S. hits Iran harder than ever before or the two sides sign a good deal. Rubio said President Trump expressed disappointment with the level of NATO involvement in the conflict. He said the matter would be addressed at the leaders' level and that other areas of cooperation remain. Trump also said he would meet with Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Vice President JD Vance about the latest offer.”
