U.S. and Iran Discuss Draft Agreement on Ceasefire and Nuclear Issues

President Trump said Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had approved a framework for negotiations to end the current conflict. The proposed memorandum would reopen the Strait of Hormuz without tolls and provide sanctions relief tied to compliance steps.

Iranian officials responded that a final conclusion had not been reached. A Foreign Ministry spokesman stated the government would announce its position once a decision was made.

The draft calls for a 60-day extension of the ceasefire, including in Lebanon, while nuclear talks continue. It requires Iran to address its enriched uranium stockpile and to drop claims over international waters in the Strait of Hormuz. A mediator from one of the participating countries told Axios the language on uranium elimination meets U.S. requirements, though the method remains unspecified.

The U.S. would lift the naval blockade once Iran demonstrates commitment to the terms.

Trump has previously announced imminent agreements that later stalled. The current draft has not changed substantially in recent weeks, according to a diplomat and a U.S. official cited by Axios. Qatar’s leader said mediation efforts had produced progress but did not confirm that a deal had been finalized.

Iranian state media published a version of the draft text that included large cash transfers and reconstruction funds, though U.S. officials have not verified those figures.
