U.S. and Iran Exchange Strikes After June 15 Ceasefire Agreement

The United States conducted airstrikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites and radar facilities along the southern coastline late Friday. U.S. Central Command stated the strikes responded to an attack the previous day on the Singapore-flagged vessel Ever Lovely while it transited the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran reported that a projectile struck an area near a pier in Sirik in Hormozgan province but said the port sustained no damage and continued normal operations.

Background to the June 15 Agreement The June 15 memorandum of understanding between President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian aimed to end months of conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The pact included a 60-day period during which Iran agreed to facilitate safe commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz without charge.

Both sides have accused each other of breaching the agreement. The United States cited the attack on Ever Lovely and three intercepted drones as violations, while Iran pointed to the targeting of coastal surveillance facilities as a breach of Article 1.

Iran maintains it holds management rights over the waterway and has published approved navigation routes closer to its coastline. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran will not be permitted to charge tolls or fees for transit. Bahrain condemned an alleged Iranian drone incident over its territory on Saturday.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that another tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile, with all crew reported safe.
