U.S. and Iran Reach Framework for Peace Deal to End Middle East Conflict

The United States and Iran have agreed to a framework for a peace deal to end the months-long Middle East conflict, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on June 13. A final text of the deal has been reached, Sharif stated. Pakistan is preparing for an electronic signing expected within the next 24 hours, followed by technical-level talks next week.

The UAE will unfreeze Iranian funds and may already have transferred $3 billion to Iran, Reuters reported. A tenuous ceasefire between Iran, the United States, and Israel has been in place since April 7. Earlier in the week, Iran exchanged fire with the United States and Israel.

Trump will also discuss demining the Strait of Hormuz with Britain and France at the summit, the same official said. Iran's state-run television announced that funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will take place between July 4 and July 9. The events will begin in Tehran, move to Qom, and conclude with burial at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.

Funerals for Khamenei's daughter and son-in-law, killed in the February strike, will be held the same day. Khamenei is succeeded by his son Mojtaba.
