The United States and Iran electronically signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Sunday, June 14, 2026, that commits both sides to negotiate the nuclear element of a broader deal within 60 days. The text of the MOU was released for the first time during a background call with senior administration officials and reporters on or before June 18. The Daily Caller participated in that call.
The document states that Iran will not develop or obtain a nuclear weapon and that the two countries agreed to the disposition of stockpiled enriched material under a mechanism to be mutually agreed upon. The MOU also commits the United States, working with regional partners, to develop a definitive plan of at least $300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of Iran.
The mechanism for implementing that plan will be finalized as part of a final deal within 60 days, and the United States will grant all required licenses, waivers, and permissions for the relevant financial transactions.
Vice President JD Vance addressed Israeli criticism of the agreement during an interview with The New York Times on Thursday, June 18, and again during a White House press briefing in the Brady Briefing Room the same day. "Donald J. Trump is the only head of state in the entire world who is sympathetic to the nation of Israel at this moment in time, and he happens to be the head of state of the world’s superpower," Vance said.
"If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have anywhere left in the entire world," he added. Vance also questioned the approach of some Israeli officials. "What is your exact proposal?
You’re a country of nine million people. You can’t just kill your way out of solving every single national security problem that you have," he said. The vice president stated that the United States has destroyed Iran’s nuclear program, protected Israeli lives through its missile program in recent months, and brought Iran to a point where it is offering concessions that would have been unlikely six months ago.
