The government has authorized limited redeployment of the Mythos 5 model to approved U.S. cyber defenders and infrastructure providers. Access to Fable 5 remains blocked after an earlier national security directive.
New York PostThe U.S. government has permitted Anthropic to restore limited access to its Mythos 5 artificial intelligence model for a small group of approved U.S. companies and government agencies. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote in a letter dated Friday that appropriate safeguards are now in place to allow certain trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 Model.
The letter does not authorize release of the less powerful Fable model. The company said it is working to provision the approved set of providers and restore their access as quickly as possible.
Anthropic added that it is pleased with the progress and continues to work with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available for general use again. Earlier this month Anthropic disabled customer access to both Mythos and Fable to comply with a government order to suspend all use by foreign nationals, including its own employees.
The order cited national security authorities.

The Trump administration also asked OpenAI to limit its own newest model. Earlier this year the administration labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk over a disagreement about military uses for its products. Anthropic sued over the designation and has recorded at least one early win in the case.
