U.S. State Department report labels Cuba a unique threat to American security

The U.S. State Department released a 100-page unsigned report on Monday that accuses Cuba of involvement in multiple U.S. political events. ” The report, titled Cuba: Capital of 21st-Century Communism, links Cuba to events including the George Floyd riots, the rise of antifa, and pro-terrorist activism on U.S. college campuses.

It also recounts Cuban government actions after 1959, including expeditions against Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Panama.

The report was issued while Cuba faces a six-month U.S. oil blockade, sanctions on foreign businesses, and threats of military intervention. Residents in Havana have reported searching through uncollected rubbish for food and experiencing blackouts lasting more than 24 hours.

The document notes that Cuba has recruited spies with ideological commitment and references groups such as the Black Panthers. It does not mention U.S. actions including assassination attempts on Fidel Castro or shelter provided to individuals later linked to the 1976 bombing of Cubana flight 455.

” The report counters that “to mistake Cuba’s poverty for harmlessness is to misunderstand the threat entirely” and states that Cuban agents maintain a foothold in hundreds of front groups and activist organizations. The report provides no new evidence and was published by the State Department, which is run by the Cuban-American Marco Rubio.
