U.S. Central Command Strikes Iranian Surveillance, Communications and Air Defenses

U.S. Central Command conducted strikes on June 10 against Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems and air defense sites using Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy assets. The operation followed an April 2026 agreement between the U.S. and Iran and came after U.S. and Israeli forces attacked Iran on Feb. 28, 2026.

President Trump posted on Truth Social that U.S. forces would strike Iran “VERY HARD TONIGHT” and said the United States would seize Kharg Island along with other Iranian oil infrastructure. Trump stated the U.S. would assume “total control” of Iran’s oil and gas markets and compared the planned action to operations in Venezuela.

Kharg Island, located in the northern Persian Gulf, accounts for roughly 90% of Iran’s crude oil shipments.

Iranian officials said Thursday that renewed U.S. strikes had rendered an existing ceasefire arrangement effectively void. Iran asserts it has launched retaliatory strikes against American bases in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer delivered remarks on the Senate floor on June 11 criticizing the plan. Schumer accused the president and top national security officials of repeatedly misleading the public about the state of hostilities. “On Iran, for weeks, Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio have insisted their disastrous war in Iran is over.

” Schumer said the conflict had killed 13 American service members and wounded nearly 400 others, while costing U.S. taxpayers at least $29 billion.
