U.S. Strikes Iranian Missile and Radar Sites After Drone Hits Cargo Ship

U.S. military aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage sites, coastal radar locations, air defense sites and communication systems on Friday. The strikes came one day after an Iranian one-way attack drone hit the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely in the Strait of Hormuz, damaging its starboard side and bridge.

U.S. forces shot down three of four Iranian drones launched at ships that day; the fourth struck the Ever Lovely. No injuries were reported on the vessel, which continued its journey. CENTCOM said the strikes were conducted in direct response to continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping.

The targets included drone storage facilities and minelayer capabilities. An Iran ceasefire agreement took effect on June 17 under a 14-point memorandum of understanding that called for Iran to use its best efforts for safe passage of commercial vessels with no charge for 60 days.

Windward reported 43 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz the day after the attack, down from 78 the day before and below the pre-war average of more than 130 per day.

At least two tankers reversed course on the UN-backed route near Oman, according to Lloyd's List Intelligence. More than two dozen ships continued transiting the strait's southern route. The UN shipping agency temporarily paused its effort to evacuate hundreds of stranded ships and thousands of seafarers from the Gulf after the Thursday attack.

The Strait of Hormuz carries approximately 20 percent of the world's oil and gas shipments. Iran's state media reported no damage to the port of Sirik following the U.S. strike. Iran's Revolutionary Guard said its navy struck locations where U.S.

Military forces are stationed in the region.
