UAE Reports Iranian Missile Attacks as US Ceasefire Holds
The United Arab Emirates said its air defenses intercepted Iranian missiles and drones on May 5. U.S. officials reported more than 10 Iranian attacks on American forces since an April 7 ceasefire, along with strikes on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump placed the U.S. escort operation Project Freedom on hold pending further talks.
The War ZoneThe ministry confirmed that sounds heard in scattered areas resulted from these interceptions. No details on damage or casualties were immediately released. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a new warning to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the only safe route is the corridor previously announced by Iran.
Any deviation would face decisive action from the IRGC Navy. The U.S. Navy has advised transits to travel south of that corridor along the coast of Oman.

Dan Caine said Iran has attacked U.S. forces more than 10 times since the ceasefire was announced on April 7. He added that Iran fired at commercial vessels nine times and seized two container ships during the same period. Caine described the incidents as low-level harassing fire that remains below the threshold for restarting major combat operations.
U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the ceasefire is not over and that Project Freedom is a separate defensive effort to protect shipping. He noted that Iran knows the limits and urged prudence to keep actions below the violation threshold. President Trump, when asked what would constitute a violation, told reporters they would find out.
“Since the ceasefire was announced, Iran has fired at commercial vessels nine times and seized two container ships, and they’ve attacked U.S. forces more than 10 times, all below the threshold of restarting major combat operations." — Gen. The IRGC spokesman denied any missile or drone operations against the UAE in recent days and called the UAE report categorically false. The United States proposed a UN Security Council resolution requiring Iran to cease attacks, mining, and tolling in the Strait of Hormuz. The draft also demands disclosure of sea mine locations and supports a humanitarian corridor. South Korea said it is reviewing a U.S. proposal to join Project Freedom based on military readiness and domestic laws.”
“Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed.”
